Rúben Amorim will be on the Milan bench at the start of next season.
Milan finished the season in a horrendous way, missing out on the Champions League qualification and then firing the CEO, Director of Sport and Coach the next day.
After weeks of negotiations with different names, the club, led by owner Gerry Cardinale and advisor Zlatan Ibrahimović, decided to sign Amorim as the new manager.
A statement from Milan reads: “Milan appoints Rúben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s First Team.
“Amorim began his coaching career in 2018, following a professional playing career in which he represented Belenenses and Benfica, as well as the Portugal national team.
“After early coaching experiences at Casa Pia and Braga, he was appointed Head Coach of Sporting Clube de Portugal in March 2020, marking the start of a cycle defined by a strong playing identity, innovation, and player development. This period translated into tangible success, including two Portuguese league titles, two League Cups, and one Super Cup. He most recently served as Head Coach of Manchester United before joining Milan.
“Throughout his career, Amorim has developed a modern dominant tactical approach with clear player profiles and strong organizational design that develops young players and maximizes their potential.

“‘We have tracked Rúben for years and his Sporting tenure is extremely impressive and reflects the style of play that we are looking for. He is one of the most prepared and innovative coaches of the new European generation – young, ambitious, and with a modern footballing identity defined by dominating games in possession, a modern pressing system and a clear tactical approach’,” said Cardinale, Managing Partner of RedBird Capital Partners. “‘Rúben believes in high press attacking football with quick transitions that enable greater goal scoring. His philosophy aligns perfectly with our vision, while his leadership qualities and track record in developing players stood out to us. We believe in Rúben and are excited to welcome him to the Club’.”
“‘There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching Milan has always been one of mine’,” said Amorim. “‘I know exactly what this Club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world. It is a challenge I embrace with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colors represent. I can’t wait to get started and to experience every day the passion that drives Milan’.”
It is believed that Amorim, 41, signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year and he’ll get €3.5m per season.
Amorim is the only one of the new Milan to have been appointed – no CEO, no Director of Sport, still very much a Cardinale-branded fiasco and circus.
