Rayo Vallecano have on Friday announced the permanent signing of defender Nobel Mendy from La Liga rivals Real Betis.

This comes after the Senegalese international spent the duration of the 2025/26 campaign plying his trade on loan in Spain’s capital.

Deemed surplus to requirements by Manuel Pellegrini and the Betis coaching staff last summer, Mendy was snapped up by Vallecano on a 12-month basis, with the transfer also featuring an option to buy.

The 21-year-old from here went on to play a leading role at Vallecas, notching a pair of goals across 24 total La Liga appearances.

And as alluded to above, along the way, Mendy evidently did enough to convince those in a position of power at his temporary employers of his readiness to contribute long-term.

As per a statement across Rayo Vallecano’s website and social media platforms:

‘Nobel Mendy will be a Rayo Vallecano player until the end of the 2029-30 season. We are so happy to continue our journey together, Nobel!’
