Following their training ground fight on Thursday, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have been hit with a significant fine by Real Madrid.

The two players were involved in a physical altercation on Thursday at Valdebebas which ended with Valverde being taken to the hospital for a cut on his face as well as a head injury.

Real Madrid confirmed late on the night that disciplinary proceedings had been opened against the midfield duo, and now the investigation has come to a conclusion with the pair being hit with a fine.

The club confirm that both Valverde and Tchouameni apologised to each other as well as their teammates, the staff, and the club.

However, neither player has been suspended for any duration. This means that Tchouameni will be available for Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona, although Valverde will miss the game due to his head injury, for which he has been advised 10-14 days rest.

Real Madrid’s official statement

The statement released from Real Madrid reads as follows:

“Real Madrid CF announces that, following the events that led to the opening of a disciplinary case yesterday against our players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouameni, both appeared today before the case investigator.

“During the appearance, the players expressed their deep regret for what happened and apologized to each other.

“They have also apologised to the club, their teammates, the coaching staff and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate.

“Given these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thus concluding the corresponding internal procedures.”
