After long negotiations, VfB Stuttgart officially unveiled their new signing Dženan Pejčinovićon Monday. The 21-year-old had his breakthrough Bundesliga campaign last term despite Wolfsburg’s first-ever relegation.
As a result, Champions League regulars FC Porto showed interest in signing the striker. However, Pejčinović rejected their approach as he was convinced by Stuttgart’s project. He has now signed a long-term deal until 2031 after completing his move to Stuttgart for €25 million.
“I can’t wait to get started at VfB (Stuttgart). I already know some of the players from the young teams of the DFB and had very good conversations with those responsible. I did not have to think long when I heard about their interest.” said the striker.
“We agreed internally very early on to sign Dzenan Pejcinovic. He brings everything to be a valuable option right away. At the same time, he still has a lot of development potential as a young player. It is a great signal that a player who is highly sought after on the market has decided to switch to us. This also confirms the continuous upward trend of VfB Stuttgart in recent years.” said Stuttgart’s chief Fabian Wohlgemuth.
Pejčinović could represent either Montenegro or Germany at the international level. According to reports, Jürgen Klopp has already started his attempt to pursue the striker. The 2024 Fritz Walter silver medalist is currently a Germany U21 international as he scored twice in the qualifiers for the European championships.
