According to L’Équipe, Badredine Bouanani, a young attacking midfielder who has had an impressive season with OGC Nice, has decided to represent Algeria at the international level, despite having previously played for France’s U16, U18, and U19 teams. Bouanani, who is of Algerian descent, was convinced to make the switch after lengthy discussions with Algeria’s head coach Djamel Belmadi and conversations with Algerian international players at Nice, Youcef Atal and Hicham Boudaoui.
Bouanani’s decision to represent Algeria may be a significant one for his career in the future. The 18-year-old has been considered one of the most promising young players in France, and his decision to switch national allegiances could have implications for his future international career. However, Bouanani’s strong attachment to his Algerian roots and the ambitious vision presented by Belmadi appear to have convinced him to make the switch.
It would not be surprising to see Bouanani called up to represent Algeria in their upcoming matches against Niger, as he has had an impressive season in Ligue 1, contributing three assists in seven appearances.
