Olise’s Unusual Appearances: Bayern Was Prepared for Anything | OneFootball

Michael Olise isn’t just making headlines for his performances right now. The 24-year-old’s public persona is also the subject of intense discussion. His unusual look during FC Bayern’s visit to Oktoberfest was just the latest example. For those in charge in Munich, however, Olise’s unconventional style comes as no surprise at all.

According to information from BILD, Bayern had already taken a close look at the Frenchman’s personality well before signing him in the summer of 2024. In doing so, they also sought information from a man who knew Olise from working with him on a daily basis: Oliver Glasner.

The current Nottingham manager had coached Olise for several months at Crystal Palace in 2024. Sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed as early as April 2025 that there had been an exchange with Glasner prior to the transfer.

Bayern gathered detailed information about Olise

The discussions reportedly weren’t limited to Olise’s soccer skills. His personality and behavior off the field were also topics of discussion.

This was certainly relevant to the Munich club. Even during his time in England, Olise stood out for his unusual interviews and reserved nature. Bayern therefore apparently wanted to know exactly what kind of character they would be bringing into the locker room with this highly talented offensive player.

Glasner’s feedback is said to have helped allay any potential concerns. The Austrian later spoke very positively in public about his former protégé.

“Michael is who he is. He’s terse, not a man of many words. He lets his actions on the field speak for themselves. He’s a soccer player, not an orator! But that’s not necessary anyway,” Glasner explained in August 2025.

For the former Palace coach, another side of Olise takes center stage anyway.

“Michael is a great person.”

“We’d all rather have a gifted soccer player who proves himself on the field than one who talks a big game but can’t back it up on the field. Michael is a great person. And I also think it’s important to accept him for who he is—and to simply take great pleasure in watching him play soccer.”

This assessment aligns with the picture regularly painted by Bayern officials and his teammates. Team sources repeatedly say that Olise is much more communicative internally than his public appearances might suggest.

Vincent Kompany and Max Eberl have also repeatedly defended their star against criticism. The fact that the Frenchman doesn’t show much enthusiasm for interviews or public appearances has not been viewed as a major problem by the record champions so far.

The current discussions are therefore unlikely to come as a surprise to the club’s leadership. Even before signing him for around 51 million euros, the Munich club apparently knew that Olise has his own way of dealing with the public.

On the field, there’s hardly any cause for debate anyway. In the first seven competitive matches of the new season, Olise has already scored eight goals and provided four assists. Since his move to Munich, he has scored 50 goals and set up another 58 in 114 appearances.

So while discussions about Olise’s public persona continue outside the club, FC Bayern seems to have reached a clear conclusion more than two years ago: his quirks are part of the total package.
