Oliver Glasner says Liam Delap is the perfect fit for Nottingham Forest after the striker’s club-record move from Chelsea. According to NY Times, the 23-year-old has moved to the City Ground for an initial £45 million, with a further £5 million in add-ons.
Glasner, who turned 52 on Friday, called it the right move for all parties ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool. He said talks lasted many days as Forest convinced Delap the club suited his career.
Delap hit 12 Premier League goals for Ipswich Town in 2024-2025, prompting Chelsea to pay £30 million to activate his release clause last summer.
He then endured a frustrating year in London, scoring one league goal across 12 starts and 16 substitute appearances.
The head coach said Delap wanted more minutes and a chance to reignite his career. He argued Forest’s style suits a forward who runs in behind, with power and finishing among his strengths. He also highlighted the player’s youth, top-flight experience and hunger to improve.
Forest now aim to add a wing-back and have bid £22 million for Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz. He said arrivals are quite close, with three days left in the window, while declining to discuss names.
Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Yates are fit to travel to Anfield. Ibrahim Sangare is out with a minor calf issue picked up in training on Wednesday.
