Oliver Glasner says he has no regrets over saying he felt abandoned by Crystal Palace’s hierarchy after the 2-1 loss at Sunderland, and added that Jean-Philippe Mateta has not asked to leave and no bids have arrived.
He was booed by away fans after the defeat left Palace 10 games without a win. He said Mateta will play against Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Earlier in January, Juventus enquired, but The Athletic reported they would not pay €40 million, while Aston Villa have since shown interest.
A day earlier, Glasner said captain Marc Guehi was set to leave and that he would not extend his contract, meaning Glasner will depart at season’s end. Guehi has since joined Manchester City.
Glasner has not apologised, but said he dined with chairman Steve Parish this week and that relations remain intact. He likened it to a relationship that can face storms then sunshine.
He said his emotion reflected his attachment to the club and that his frustration was about replacement timing, not selling Marc. They had agreed last February that Guehi could be sold, he added, and being told 28 hours before a game that the captain was leaving was the issue.
Ismaila Sarr and Daniel Munoz are ready to start on Sunday. Sarr returned on Wednesday from Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations win and has trained, while Munoz is over a hamstring injury. The boost comes with a week left of the January window.
