Former Norwich City winger Onel Hernandez has predicted striker Mo Toure will have a prolific season for the Canaries.

Norwich were languishing in the relegation zone when Philippe Clement took charge at Carrow Road in November, but a stunning second half of the season saw them finish in ninth place, just seven points from the play-off places.

Norwich were one of the form teams in the Championship after the turn of the year, and striker Toure was crucial to their improvement after his move from Danish side Randers in February in a deal worth £3.4 million.

Toure certainly made an immediate impact in Norfolk as he scored on his debut for the Canaries in a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers before hitting a hat-trick on his second outing in a 3-0 victory at Oxford United, which helped to pull Clement's men clear of relegation danger.

The 22-year-old bagged another treble before the end of the campaign in a 4-2 win at Bristol City in April, and his impressive exploits at club level earned him a place in the Australia squad for the World Cup in the United States this summer.

Toure wasted no time in opening his account for the new season as he netted after just 40 seconds in Norwich's 4-1 win over League One side MK Dons in the Carabao Cup at Carrow Road on Saturday, and he turned provider when he set up Anis Ben Slimane for his side's second goal just six minutes later.

Toure has caught the eye since arriving at Norwich during the winter window, and it seems former Canaries winger Onel Hernandez is among the Australia international's admirers.

Reacting to Toure's performance in the victory over MK Dons, Hernandez, who currently plays for League Two side Port Vale, was full of praise for the striker and predicted that a big season could be ahead for him at Carrow Road.

"Mo Toure scoring after 40 seconds, my goodness," Hernandez told Talk Norwich City.

"You know already this guy is taking this season very serious.

"Honestly, I think if he starts like he ended last year, this guy will score so many goals this year.

"Unbelievable.

"Then for the second goal, to be honest, I thought Mo would do it again for himself, but he wasn't very selfish at that point.

"I don't know how he passed that ball, but it was a class pass into Slimane, who, with a little skill, scored the second goal.

"They linked up really well together."

After their form in the second half of last season, many are tipping Norwich to be one of the dark horses for promotion in the upcoming campaign, and in Toure, they look to have a striker capable of firing them to the Premier League.

The Canaries were able to play without pressure for the final months of last season after pulling themselves clear of danger, so it will be intriguing to see whether they can replicate the same standards with greater expectations on them, but with a clinical goalscorer like Toure in the squad, it would be no surprise to see them involved in the promotion mix.

Having averaged 0.85 goals per game for the club so far, Toure will be aiming to at least surpass the 20-goal mark this campaign, and keeping him free of the injury problems he experienced last season will be critical to Norwich's promotion chances.
