Lyon’s long-awaited clear-out may finally be starting, with Orel Mangala potentially heading to Getafe on loan to ease the wage bill.

According to L’Équipe, the Belgium international midfielder is close to moving to Spain on a loan without an option to buy.

For Lyon, the motive would be largely financial. The 28-year-old arrived from Nottingham Forest in February 2024 and is under contract until June 2028. He is believed to be on particularly high monthly wages.

Getafe would cover a little more than half of that salary, giving Lyon some breathing space for this season.

Mangala is expected in the Spanish capital on Thursday to undergo a medical. He would also link up with former Lyon player Martin Satriano.
