Oscar Mingueza ‘to decide’ future next week amid Sunderland and Aston Villa interest | OneFootball

Oscar Mingueza is expected to settle on his next club next week, with Sunderland among those monitoring the free agent defender.

The Spaniard left Celta Vigo this summer and has attracted Premier League attention from Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Sky Sports reported in May that his preference is to move to England.

Atalanta and Como have also been linked, while Juventus are said to be out of the running.

A product of Barcelona’s La Masia, Mingueza made 66 senior appearances for the Catalan side before joining Celta in summer 2022. He has four Spain caps and offers versatility across the back line, primarily at right-back but also at left-back and centre-back.

Sunderland are expected to target defensive reinforcements in this window following the exit of full-back Dennis Cirkin, and with uncertainty remaining over the future of their 2025/26 loanee Lutsharel Geertruida.
