Valencia winger David Otorbi, born in 2007, has broken into the first team at the start of this season and wants to stay there. According to AS, he nearly left on loan in the summer but remained after no attacking reinforcements arrived, and he has since earned meaningful minutes.
Valencia never considered losing control of his future. Close to turning 19, he drew interest from top-flight clubs in Germany, Switzerland and Italy, yet the club chose not to engage. Had he departed, it would only have been a straight loan without a purchase option.
Otorbi’s deal runs to 2028, with a clause to extend it to 2031 if he plays more than 45 minutes in 10 Primera División games. He has already reached three, and could realistically add seven more if he sustains his current level.
Though Carlos Corberán was not known for leaning on the academy, he started Otorbi against Barcelona at Mestalla and in Seville, where the winger hit the crossbar. Óscar Sánchez, familiar with him from the reserves, then continued to use him.
Now the task is to convince new head coach Javier Aguirre, who has hinted he wants experienced players to navigate the team’s difficult spell. Otorbi intends to earn his trust through hard work.
In recent weeks he has played through pubic discomfort, receiving daily treatment at the Ciudad Deportiva and at an external clinic in the afternoons to return to full fitness as soon as possible. Mestalla has already taken to him, applauding whenever he steps onto the pitch.
