Bayer Leverkusen’s 31-year-old midfielder Robert Andrich is no longer the club’s captain, according to Sky Germany.

Andrich has been told that he is not in the plans of new head coach Carles Martínez, and he will now be looking for a new club after spending five years at the BayArena.

Edmond Tapsoba is set to take over from Andrich as the new captain of Die Werkself, according to the report. At the same time, striker Patrik Schick is expected to assume the role of vice-captain.

Previously, Andrich had stated that as long as the club and coach want him to stay, he will not be looking to join another club. However, things seem to have changed in the past few weeks as the former Leverkusen captain is looking to make a move.

Andrich has a contract that will keep him at Leverkusen until 2028. He has previously shrugged off interest from Eintracht Frankfurt but will now assess his options, with a possible move abroad on the cards.

Andrich joined Leverkusen from Union Berlin in 2021 for €6.5m and enjoyed a successful stay at the Bay Arena. He was part of the team that went on to win the Bundesliga in 2023/24, having gone unbeaten throughout the season. He also won the DFB Pokal in that same season.
