Oyarzabal will rejoin Real Sociedad’s training at Zubieta on Monday, ending his summer break after being crowned world champion, and will work under Pellegrino Matarazzo.
According to AS, his comeback arrives less than two weeks before La Liga begins for La Real, with Betis awaiting at La Cartuja on 21 August.
The captain returns to lead an attack that has been missed during pre-season. The coaching staff hope to knit the squad together and be as prepared as possible for the opener. Gonçalo Guedes is still waiting to make his first appearance of this preparation.
Oyarzabal is coming off his most prolific club season with Real Sociedad, delivering 18 goals and four assists across La Liga and the Copa del Rey. At the recent World Cup he scored five times, equalling the national team’s single-edition record previously shared by David Villa and Emilio Butragueño.
Before resuming training, he and Martin Zubimendi, a former Real Sociedad player now at Arsenal, were honoured at City Hall as Semana Grande began in San Sebastián. Mayor Jon Insausti presented both internationals with the traditional white scarf in recognition of their world title.
