Pablo Osvaldo remains in intensive care after emergency surgery for a pleural effusion in Argentina.

According to Clarín, the 40-year-old was admitted on Thursday night to Llavallol hospital, in the Buenos Aires suburbs, and was operated on quickly for a right-sided effusion, with pus and fluid affecting his right lung.

Doctors also performed a biopsy on the pleura to rule out any potentially serious long-term illness. He is awaiting results to determine whether he must be transferred to another ward.

Over the weekend, his family said he was well and lucid.

The Italian-Argentine former Roma striker retired in 2020. He won 14 caps for Italy, scoring 4 goals. He later struggled with depression, a subject he addressed in 2024, and has since devoted time to music.
