Crystal Palace continued their fine start to the season with a hard-fought 2-1 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.

The visitors took the lead in the 37th minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta reacted quickest to a Marc Guéhi header that had rattled the crossbar, nodding home the rebound to put Palace ahead.

The Hammers hit back shortly after the restart. Jarrod Bowen got on the end of an El Hadji Malick Diouf corner, pulling away from his marker to head the ball past Dean Henderson and restore parity early in the second half.

The home side looked the more dangerous following their equaliser, with Lucas Paqueta and Kyle Walker-Peters coming close, and Chris Richards clearing a Paqueta effort off the line.

Despite the bright spell, the hosts failed to find a second goal, leaving them vulnerable at the other end.

Palace capitalised in the 68th minute. Tyrick Mitchell was given too much space in the box and produced a superbly controlled volley to restore the lead, which proved decisive. West Ham tried to respond in the closing stages, but the Eagles held firm to claim all three points.

The result piles more pressure on Graham Potter, as West Ham slip further down the table, while Palace take confidence from a disciplined and composed performance on the road.
