According to Glorioso 1904, João Palhinha is close to joining Benfica, with the total package potentially hitting 40 million euros if a four-year contract is fulfilled.
The fixed payment to Bayern Munich is 14 million euros, short of the 25 million requested by the Bavarians. A further 5 million is linked to objectives, taking the projected transfer spend to 19 million.
Palhinha is set to earn a gross salary of 5 million euros per year, around 2.5 million net. Over four years that amounts to 20 million, which, added to the projected fees, brings the figure to 39 million. There is also a 1 million signing-on bonus.
His desire to return to Portugal, in this case to Benfica, has been decisive. The 31-year-old communicated this to Bayern Munich, where he had a contract until 2028, meaning two years remaining.
At Benfica he would reunite with Marco Silva, with whom he forged an excellent relationship at Fulham. In England, the Portugal international led the Premier League for tackles in two consecutive seasons, and topped all European leagues in 2023/24 with 150.
