Palmeiras are hoping to have forward Paulinho available immediately after the Fifa break, with the No 10 sidelined since late July. His potential return would come as the club enter a decisive run in the Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil and Conmebol Libertadores.

According to Globo.com, he joined on-pitch and physiotherapy work on Friday as the squad reconvened. The pause was already seen by staff as key to reset players, and it could also help bring Paulinho back.

He has made only nine appearances this season and has struggled with injuries since joining at the start of 2025. The most recent problem, in the tendon of the right adductor longus, was identified at the end of August.

The initial target was Bahia on the eighth at Nubank Parque, and the outlook remains that this could be met. Sporting director Anderson Barros said Paulinho has been fully committed and staff believe he can overcome this spell and be important this season and next.

Paulinho’s Palmeiras stint has been a saga since January 2025, when he arrived still recovering from right tibia surgery and did not debut until April. In July he had another operation after playing the Club World Cup in discomfort, then spent almost 10 months out before returning in May 2026.

Two months later he sprained his left ankle. During rehab he then sustained a right adductor injury, followed weeks later by an unrelated tendon problem in the same area. He remains in recovery, with a comeback expected in the coming weeks.
