Palmeiras have stepped up their squad plans and on Saturday 17 moved forward in talks to sign Nino from Zenit. According to Nosso Palestra, the club have reached an understanding with the defender and are now working to unlock a deal with the Russian side.

Nino has indicated he is open to the move, but any transfer depends on agreement with Zenit. Sources cited in the report are optimistic that negotiations could progress.

Discussions with Zenit were revived this week after an initial enquiry in December. Palmeiras are working toward an agreement in the coming weeks, seeking a reduction on the first figures.

Abel Ferreira has identified the need to strengthen his defence, with Nino, formerly of Fluminense and now at Zenit, viewed as his top option. In early December, the player’s representatives met Palmeiras to explore a deal, and Zenit’s initial price was €12 million, about R$76 million at current rates.

The current centre-back group includes Gustavo Gómez, Murilo, Bruno Fuchs and Benedetti. Micael, signed at the start of 2025, is on loan at Inter Miami in the United States.

Next up, Palmeiras face Mirassol in the Paulistão on 17/01 at 20:30 Brasília time, then visit Novorizontino on 20/01 at 20:00 Brasília time.
