Their last quarter-final exit came in 2013, when a 1-1 draw with Santos at Vila Belmiro was followed by a 4-2 defeat on penalties. Kleber scored for Palmeiras, Cícero replied for Santos.

Abel Ferreira's side have reached the quarter-finals 16 seasons in a row and are on a run of six consecutive finals. They were champions in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024, runners-up in 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2025. They were semi-finalists in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019, and last fell in the group stage in 2010.

Since the opening round of 2022, Palmeiras have lost only seven of 73 Paulista matches, the first legs of the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 finals plus defeats to Novorizontino in 2025 and 2026 and to Botafogo-SP in 2026. They have 48 wins and 18 draws in that span, scoring 114 and conceding 43, lifting the title in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Palmeiras will learn their semi-final opponent after the remaining ties. São Paulo are through after beating Red Bull Bragantino, with Portuguesa versus Corinthians and Grêmio Novorizontino versus Santos deciding the other slots. The semi-finals are scheduled for next weekend, between 30 February and one March, and before then Palmeiras face Fluminense in the Campeonato Brasileiro on Wednesday 25 at Arena Barueri.
