Palmeiras endured a night to forget in the Paulistão, soundly beaten as Novorizontino scored four, their display flat and riddled with errors.

According to Globo.com, goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba, in his first match of the year, was beaten four times and a risky pass of his preceded the third. Murilo was badly positioned for the second, with Piquerez also culpable in that move, and captain Gustavo Gómez could not steady a shaky back line.

On the right, Khellven laboured without the ball but delivered one fine cross that Riquelme Fillipi headed on target, only for the keeper to save, after the forward had earlier blazed over from inside the box.

Emiliano Martínez misplaced simple passes and failed to impose himself, while Larson’s attempts to steady the build-up were undermined by poor decisions. Raphael Veiga was far from his best and was withdrawn, and Allan carried little threat from the right.

Flaco López dropped deep to link play but rarely received service in scoring positions, while Bruno Rodrigues made little impact after coming on. Marlon Freitas arrived late and was not rated.

Abel Ferreira stuck with his rotation plan, but the changes backfired. Luighi lost the ball attempting a dribble on the edge of the area before the third, and Benedetti’s error in the build-up, then being caught by a ball over the top, led to the fourth.
