Palmeiras will face LDU in the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2026 quarter-finals after the Ecuadorian side knocked out Mirassol on penalties in Quito.
The tie at Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado finished 0-0 in normal time before the shootout decided the contest on Thursday 20. As reported by Nosso Palestra, the result sends LDU through to meet Palmeiras.
Palmeiras sealed their place on Wednesday 19 with a 1-0 win over Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. Gustavo Gómez scored the decisive goal and became the first player to net in nine consecutive editions of the competition.
The matchup puts Palmeiras against Ecuadorian opposition again at a decisive stage of the tournament.
LDU’s home matches are played at altitude, with the Rodrigo Paz Delgado sitting about 2,800 metres above sea level. Before Thursday’s game, the club had lost only six of 33 home meetings with Brazilian sides.
In the group stage, LDU and Mirassol split their meetings, the Ecuadorians winning in Quito and the São Paulo team prevailing in Brazil.
The quarter-final is scheduled across the weeks of 9 and 16 September, with the winner progressing to the semi-final.
