Pape Thiaw has labelled Norway the best team in Europe right now. According to L'Équipe, the Senegal coach made the remark on Monday in a press conference.
While France’s recent wins over Brazil, 2-1, and Colombia, 3-1, have drawn international praise, Thiaw focused his attention on Norway.
He highlighted the quality of their players on the international stage and said that, in his view, they are currently Europe’s best. He noted they lost 1-2 to the Netherlands on Friday without Erling Haaland or Martin Ödegaard.
Thiaw was speaking on the eve of a friendly against the Gambia.
Senegal open their World Cup campaign against France on 16 June in Group I, before meeting Norway. The group’s fourth team, either Iraq or Bolivia, will be decided on Tuesday night via the intercontinental play-off.
