Paraag Marathe, involved at Rangers under 49ers Enterprises ownership, says Elland Road’s redevelopment model could help shape potential capacity work at Ibrox, with early options under review.

According to Leeds Live, he told a shareholder meeting on Monday that Rangers have commissioned a survey, feasibility study and architectural assessment to increase capacity with minimal disruption. Lowering the pitch is being examined and could add 5,000 to 6,000 seats.

At Elland Road, planning approval arrived in January, full construction began hours after the final whistle of Leeds’ last home Premier League match against Brighton on May 17, and major work on the West Stand started in June.

The ticket office has gone, and the away changing rooms, security hub and banqueting suite have been cleared. The stand’s capacity will rise from 8,000 to 17,750, with completion expected in late 2028.

The new structure will stretch back into the car park. A temporary hospitality facility behind the North Stand will host West Stand guests, due to be fitted for 2026/27 and to remain throughout.

Last month, the old Fullerton Car Park changing rooms, which carried a tribute mural to Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, were removed with the families’ support, as work continued.

The wider project is expected to run until around 2030, with most heavy work in summers and international breaks. Marathe aims to avoid reducing existing seating, though some West Stand supporters will face disruption.
