Paris Brunner could face a one or four-match ban after miming a throat-slitting gesture during Monaco's 1-1 draw at Strasbourg. According to L'Equipe, the Conseil national de l'éthique has referred the case to the Ligue de football professionnel's disciplinary commission.

The forward equalised for Monaco shortly after the hour on Saturday, then, while being held by team-mates, gestured towards home supporters.

CNE president Frédéric Thiriez said the gesture may constitute a breach of the principle of exemplarity in the ethics charter, adding that the disciplinary body would assess the facts and decide whether any sanction is warranted.

Under the disciplinary code, a one-match ban could apply if the act is judged "comportement excessif déplacé" under article 4, while "comportement intimidant/menaçant" under article 8 would mean four matches.

The 20-year-old German said he was insulted throughout, including remarks about his family, and that emotion took over after scoring. He maintained he did not intend disrespect and would not call it a regret, but said it was not the message he meant to send.

Monaco are awaiting the verdict.
