Paris FC’s knack for troubling Ligue 1’s big hitters continued with a 2-2 draw against Marseille, earned in stoppage time after trailing 0-2. Ilan Kebbal equalised from the spot.

According to L'Équipe, January handed the promoted side a taxing run with PSG twice, plus Nantes, Angers and Marseille. They lost only once in the league, 1-2 at the Parc des Princes, knocked out the European champions 1-0, beat Nantes 2-1 and drew 0-0 with Angers.

Five league points, coupled with Nantes’ 1-2 defeat at Lorient and with Sunday’s fixtures pending, have given Paris FC breathing space over Nantes, Auxerre and Metz.

The Arnault family’s club also keep thriving against top opposition. They won 1-0 at Monaco earlier in the season and drew 3-3 with Lyon after trailing 0-3.

Stéphane Gilli said his side lift themselves for elite opponents, find an extra edge and fare better against teams who press high, while low blocks such as Angers’ are trickier. He added their build-up has improved since the 2-5 loss at Marseille in August, underpinned by a 200 percent mentality.

Adama Camara saw the comeback as further proof of solidarity, helped by extra motivation and space, while Kebbal noted open teams suit Paris FC more than compact ones.

They visit Lorient in the Coupe de France last 16 on Wednesday, another adventurous side, and should again find room to express themselves.
