Paris FC have accelerated plans to add a centre-back after Samir Chergui was ruled out for six to eight weeks with a thigh injury following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations last week, according to L'Équipe. Stéphane Gilli has used a back five since the start of the year, a shape that could remain.

The promoted side had initially prioritised a striker, a powerful midfielder and a wide player this window, with defensive reinforcements only considered if an opportunity arose.

The club have made contact with Olympiakos Piraeus of the Greek top flight regarding French defender Giulian Biancone, 25. He has featured 14 times in all competitions this season and, although he has not played regularly, his coach is reluctant to let him leave, believing he can develop.

Another option in recent hours is Italian Diego Coppola, 22, at Brighton. He has also seen limited minutes, with nine outings, five in the league and four in cups.

Paris FC are prioritising loan deals this winter, a stance that could slow negotiations.
