Pascal Gross injury scare appears to stem from live blog typo

According to WeAreBrighton.com, confusion over Pascal Gross’s availability for Brighton at Newcastle appears to have stemmed from a live blog typing error rather than an injury.

An early update during Fabian Hurzeler’s press conference said James Milner and Gross were both ruled out but close to returning, before a midday correction named Milner and Solly March instead.

Shortly afterwards, a local piece underlined Gross’s importance for the trip, which would be unusual if he were genuinely sidelined.

One theory is that Gross’s name was carried over in error after Hurzeler had just been praising him, including his April Premier League Player of the Month nomination and his role linking manager and team.

Subsequent updates indicated Gross is fit to face Newcastle, while Milner and March are not available, are very close, and will train next week.

On that basis, Gross now appears likely to be involved when the teams are announced at St James’ Park, with the usual caveat that plans can still change.
