Paul Pogba and Monaco have ended their association after one year, the club said in a joint statement on Wednesday. It described his arrival as an ambitious gamble, highlighted his guidance for younger team-mates and the fact he returned to professional action, and conveyed Pogba’s gratitude despite limited minutes.
Initially contracted until 2027, Pogba was informed several weeks ago that the stint would end early. The decision comes amid frequent injuries and difficulty in recapturing the very highest level.
He made six cameos for Monaco. This summer the 33-year-old featured for only 45 minutes in friendlies, against Saint-Priest in a 5-2 win on 18 July.
The announcement arrives on the eve of the Conference League play-off first leg in Poland against Gornik Zabrze, scheduled for 20:00 on Thursday.
Pogba will remain in Monaco initially to continue treatment and he can keep using the club’s facilities.
