Paul Pogba, 33, has left AS Monaco by mutual consent one year into a two-year contract, the club said in a statement.
He arrived last summer on a free transfer, his first deal since a doping ban sidelined him for almost two years. An adapted programme preceded his Monaco debut in November.
Persistent injuries restricted him to six appearances and only 105 minutes across the campaign.
CEO Thiago Scuro thanked Pogba for his commitment and described the move as a bold, ambitious gamble. He accepted the outcome was not what the club had hoped, yet highlighted the enthusiasm around Pogba’s return and that he stepped back onto a professional pitch.
Pogba expressed gratitude to president Dmitry Rybolovlev, the management, team-mates, staff and supporters. He called Monaco an exceptional club and described representing the club and the Principality as an incredible experience, even if he played fewer matches than he wanted.
The midfielder is now a free agent.
