Pedro heads into Flamengo’s Conmebol Libertadores decider against Cruzeiro at the Maracanã, for a place in the quarter-finals, needing two goals to overtake Gabigol as the club’s top scorer in the competition.

The tie is level after a 1-1 first leg at the Mineirão, when coach Leonardo Jardim started without him, leaving his starting role in doubt.

On Sunday he struck twice in the 5-1 win over Mirassol, moving to 14 in the Brasileiro, level with Kevin Viveros of Athletico-PR at the top of the scoring chart.

Pedro has 28 Libertadores goals for Flamengo, two behind Gabigol on 30, with Bruno Henrique on 24, Zico 16 and Arrascaeta 12. Gabigol is also the leading Brazilian scorer in the competition with 31, Pedro remains on 28.

In the league, Flamengo are second on 45 points, three off Palmeiras with a game in hand. The sides meet again on Saturday at the Mineirão in the Brasileiro.
