Guus Til won a penalty late in the first half. VAR confirmed the spot kick, and Ricardo Pepi converted in the third minute of first half stoppage time.

After the restart, Perišić added his second from Mauro Júnior's through ball (53.). Moments later, Sergiño Dest rifled into the top corner (56.) from Ruben van Bommel's break.

Etienne Vaessen made seven saves for Groningen as the Boeren kept coming. The hosts finished with 24 attempts, 12 on target, and 62.1% of the ball.

There was a brief stoppage for treatment to van Bommel just before the review.

Next, the Boeren visit Utrecht. Groningen host Fortuna Sittard.
