Peru government praises Flamengo’s Urubu de Lima shirt inspired by Nazca Lines | OneFootball

The Government of Peru has applauded Flamengo’s new Urubu de Lima shirt, a fan-designed winner that honours the country and Lima. It nods to the club’s Libertadores triumphs in the city in 2019 and 2025.

The Ministry of Culture’s page said Peru and its culture are fundamental, highlighted the launch and its homage to the Nazca Lines, adding that the nation’s legacy links cultures through sport.

The government also reposted a Flamengo message that proclaimed every final in Lima would be red and black, and directed fans to the details of a historic Manto da Nação release.

In July the club launched the Manto da Nação project inviting supporters to submit shirt designs, drawing more than 8,000 entries from every state in Brazil.

Flamengo then shortlisted 10 and opened a vote, with Urubu de Lima prevailing. The winning designer received R$ 10,000 and the shirt is already on sale.

Inspired by the Nazca geoglyphs in Peru, the design reimagines Flamengo’s vulture symbol as a visual reference to the monumental drawings, connecting the club with Lima’s place in its history.

Designer Marcelo Gluz said creating a shirt for Flamengo ranks among the most special moments of his career, describing it as work driven by passion and identity shared by millions, himself included.
