Miguel Araujo has left FC Emmen after four seasons at the club. The 28-year-old Peruvian defender has joined MLS side Portland Timbers. Araujo has signed a two-year contract with the side that currently sit tenth in the Western Conference of MLS.
Portland Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese has said ‘We think Miguel’s experience in a strong competition like the Eredivisie can ensure good competition in our defence.’ Araujo kicked off his career in Peru with Cobresol FBC. In 2013 he joined Red Star Belgrade before returning to his home country to play for Alianza Lima.
In 2019 the centre-back joined FC Emmen where he established himself as a fan favourite. He played 118 matches for Emmen, regularly wearing the captain’s armband. Now his time in the Netherlands has come to an end. The Peruvian will play for Portland Timbers who take on Minnesota United this Sunday. Araujo is experienced and could be the perfect fit for Portland Timbers.
