Manchester City have completed the signing of highly rated goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday, with the Northern Ireland international immediately joining Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium after City agreed a deal worth a reported £3 million plus add-ons. Charles returns to the club where he began his youth career before leaving for Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.

Since making the move to Hillsborough, Charles has established himself as one of the Championship's brightest young goalkeepers. He made 36 senior appearances for the Owls, earning praise for his composure and shot-stopping ability in a difficult period for the club.

Rather than remain as backup in Manchester, Charles will spend the 2026/27 campaign with QPR, where he is expected to play regular first-team football as part of his development. The London club had previously shown interest in signing him directly from Sheffield Wednesday before City's move accelerated.

The transfer continues City's long-term strategy of investing in emerging talent, with the club viewing Charles as one for the future.
