Several Marseille players, reportedly led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, caused significant damage inside accomodation at the club’s training ground on Thursday night following the end of an enforced stay imposed on the players, according to a report from Foot Mercato. A number of Marseille players allegedly turned their rooms upside down during an improvised end-of-retreat party. Beds were moved, rooms left in disarray and, most notably, a fire extinguisher was reportedly emptied inside the room of a club official.
Several internal witnesses reportedly described the atmosphere as resembling a “summer camp”, with the behaviour said to have shocked multiple members of staff present at the training centre.
The four-day shut-in at La Commanderie had been organised in an attempt to halt the club’s alarming slide in form following weeks of instability both on and off the pitch. Marseille currently sit seventh in Ligue 1 with just two matches remaining and are set to miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification. Defeats in four of their last six league matches have intensified pressure around the club, particularly after last weekend’s collapse against FC Nantes, during which OM conceded three goals in the space of eight second-half minutes.GFFN | George Boxall
