RC Lens and Pierre Sage are set to end their collaboration in the coming days. RMC reports that the 47-year-old will leave.

Sage had been weighing up his future, with the prospect of a departure growing stronger by the day. He informed Lens’s hierarchy early this week of his wish to pursue a new project, and the club had sensed it after his extensive media round following the Coupe de France final.

The partnership will ultimately last only one season, despite Sage signing a three-year contract last summer. He made his name during his spell in charge of OL from November 2023 to January 2025. He could soon agree to join Crystal Palace to replace Oliver Glasner, who is close to AC Milan, though other options remain open.

Lens intend to seek compensation in line with the market value of their head coach.

Named Ligue 1 coach of the year at the UNFP awards three weeks ago, Sage then assessed his options. His campaign delivered 28 wins, 4 draws and 8 defeats, the club’s first Coupe de France after beating Nice 3-1 in the final, and a runners-up finish in Ligue 1, securing a return to the Champions League. His departure will leave a bitter taste among Sang et Or supporters.
