Pisa picked up their first win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cremonese at the Arena Garibaldi, thanks to Idrissa Touré’s decisive header midway through the second half.

After a balanced first 45 minutes in which both sides had chances, Franco Vázquez struck the crossbar for Cremonese while Pisa’s M’Bala Nzola saw an early strike denied by Emil Audero, it was the hosts who made their dominance count after the break.

Pisa battle to first win of the season against Cremonese

The breakthrough came on 75 minutes when Matteo Tramoni’s teasing cross evaded everyone, leaving Touré unmarked to nod home from close range.

It was a deserved lead after Pisa had already gone close through Nzola, whose powerful header had drifted just wide minutes earlier.

Cremonese pushed for an equaliser, with substitute Federico Baschirotto forcing a fine save and appeals for a late handball waved away by referee Matteo Marcenaro.

However, Davide Nicola’s side ultimately failed to find a way through a disciplined Pisa defence, who recorded just their fourth clean sheet of the campaign.

The result lifts Alberto Gilardino’s men further clear of the drop zone, whilst the visitors suffered just their third defeat of the season – but second in-a-row after last weekend’s loss to Juventus.
