Gonzalo Plata, due to report back to Flamengo in Rio on Sunday after his Dínamo Moscow transfer collapsed, moved to underline his commitment and explained his late return.
According to Globo.com, Flamengo’s hierarchy are irritated by the delay after the Russian club cancelled the sale, citing a failed medical. Instead of flying straight back to Rio, Plata travelled to Dubai while his representatives explored alternatives.
In a message, the Ecuadorian acknowledged there had been a genuine chance to continue his career elsewhere, said he handled talks professionally and that circumstances prevented completion. He added such situations happen in football and must be handled with maturity, calm and responsibility.
He now considers his present to be at Flamengo, saying he is focused, prepared and 100% committed to the club, his team-mates and the objectives ahead.
Interest from Arab clubs has so far pointed to fees around US$6 million, well below the 10 million euros Dínamo Moscow were set to pay.
Another flashpoint was president Bap’s private remarks, made a day before the deal was scrapped, expressing relief at Plata’s sale and referencing his nightlife, which later leaked and complicated the forward’s return. Flamengo believe the player is being offered widely and a move is being pushed, but Bap has ruled out a sale this window and ordered him to report back. Plata remains under contract until August 2029.
