Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund played out a thrilling 3-3 draw as Bundesliga action returned, with Can Uzun, Younes Ebnoutalib and Mo Dahoud on target for the Eagles.
Head coach Dino Toppmöller made five changes to the team which had started the final match of 2025. Arthur Theate, Oscar Højlund, new recruit Younes Ebnoutalib, fit-again Can Uzun and goalkeeper Kaua Santos all came in, while other winter arrivals Arnaud Kalimuendo, Keita Kosugi and Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab were among the substitutes.
After both sides looked lively in the opening exchanges, it was BVB who took the lead just ten minutes into this opening match of the second half of the Bundesliga season. Julian Ryerson swung the ball over from the right and Maximilian Beier nipped in at the near post to convert (10’).
Immediate response
Eintracht did not let their heads drop, Ansgar Knauff latching onto a long clearance from Santos and testing Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from a tight angle (18’). Minutes later, they drew level: a throw-in from Rasmus Kristensen was nodded on by Arthur Theate towards Robin Koch, who was bundled over by Serhou Guirassy in the box. Referee Daniel Schlager immediately pointed to the spot and Uzun slotted home to make it 1-1 (22’).
The rest of the first half saw tackles fly in, yellow cards handed out and a great save by Santos to deny an unmarked Guirassy (26’), but no further goals.
BVB lead, Eintracht reply
The match continued in a similar end-to-end vein in the second half and it was Dortmund who took the lead through a deflected Felix Nmecha shot which went in off the post (68’).
The Eagles replied in the best possible way once again, however. Kalimuendo, on in place of Uzun for his debut, threaded a pass through to Ebnoutalib and the local lad smashed the ball past Kobel to open his Eintracht account, to the delight of most of the sold-out Deutsche Bank Park (71’).
In a frantic final 20 minutes, Kalimuendo was thwarted at the near post (85’), then BVB’s Nico Schlotterbeck saw his header cannon off the bar (90’). Substitute Mo Dahoud thought he had won it in injury time, clipping the ball in off the post (90+2’), only for Carney Chukwuemeka to equalise with the virtually last kick of a rollercoaster game (90+5’).
