Lazio are willing to send Nuno Tavares to Porto, but they’re expecting the Portuguese giants to make an improved effort.
Following the arrival of Alfonso Pedraza, the Biancocelesti must sell either Tavares or Luca Pellegrini. While the Italian is running on an expiring contract, the management might prefer to offload the Portuguese international, as his sale would generate a higher profit, not to mention chopping off one of the highest salaries (€2.5 million net per year) off the wage bill.
The Lisbon native has been linked with Turkish and Saudi destinations earlier in the summer. But in recent weeks, Porto emerged as his most likely destination, with the Dragoa looking to recruit the player who developped his game at the academies of their two arch-rivals, Benfica and Sporting CP.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Porto’s latest offer for Tavares was a loan worth €2 million with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, these terms haven’t tempted Lazio, who are still holding out for higher figures. It should be remembered that the left-back’s former employers, Arsenal, are entitled to receive a 35% sell-on fee.
Tavares immediately became a fan favourite at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to a flying start to his Lazio stint back in the 2024/25 campaign. However, his momentum was later derailed by injuries. Last season, he initially struggled to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s more defensive and disciplined approach, thus spending a large portion of the campaign on the bench
