It has been confirmed that Portsmouth have reached an agreement with Turkish side Antalyaspor for midfielder Jesper Ceesay.

The deal was confirmed by Antalyaspor president Mustafa Ergun. Addressing the club’s financial troubles at a press conference, following their relegation from the Turkish Super Lig, Ergun revealed: “We have reached an agreement with Portsmouth regarding Jesper Ceesay.”

The Gambia international is expected to arrive at Fratton Park in a deal worth around £680,000. Antalyaspor were happy to sell the 24-year-old, given their delicate financial situation.

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has admitted in recent days that midfield reinforcements are a priority. Despite already landing six signings this summer, Pompey are continuing to chase further additions alongside Ceesay.

Portsmouth kick off the new season with a Carabao Cup tie against West Ham. “We’re going to spend as much as possible,” Mousinho confirmed ahead of the match. “We just have to remember as a football club we can spend a percentage of our revenue and top up like every club.

“My very basic take on it is the owners here will spend as much as possible. That will still leave us in a very difficult spot in terms of how we compete in the league.

“So we’re willing to spend, limited in what we can spend and in a market where we have some very big hitters around us.”
