As Real Madrid gear up for a summer of change, one of the first things on the agenda could be replacing Alvaro Arbeloa.

While the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Didier Deschamps have emerged as potential candidates, Los Blancos might look for an old guard too, having been linked with a move for Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was one of Florentino Perez’s favourites during his stint at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. He played a key role in overseeing Cristiano Ronaldo’s growth at the club.

Now he has been linked with a sensational return to the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid look for more order and discipline after a couple of tumultuous seasons.

According to A Bola, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, the speculation is not something Mourinho is welcoming.

The Portuguese newspaper reports that the 63-year-old is uncomfortable with the volume of noise surrounding his name and his supposed links to the Spanish capital.

The report adds that Mourinho has not received any offers from any club and remains fully focused on finishing the season with Benfica in the best possible manner. There has been no contact from Real Madrid.

Furthermore, while Mourinho has publicly stated his intention to continue at Benfica beyond this season, A Bola notes that his presence is not solely dependent on his own wishes, with the club’s hierarchy also having a say in the matter.

What is clear, however, is that the Portuguese coach is actively involved in planning for next season in Lisbon, working not only on the current campaign but also on building the squad for the future.

For Real Madrid, the search for their next manager continues. But if Mourinho is the target, they are yet to make their move.
