After returning to the Championship for the first time in eight years, the Black Country outfit made a strong start to the summer transfer window, securing the impressive captures of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

Such statement signings in the second tier were met with joy from the Wolves fanbase, who finally felt like everybody was connected on the same page and that they were beginning to build a squad that could take the division by storm.

But out of the blue, it emerged that the club were parting ways with Rob Edwards, peculiar timing given the former boss had conducted a fans forum with BBC Radio WM last month to discuss plans for the upcoming season, while Trippier had commented on how influential Edwards was in the ex-England international moving to Molineux.

Not to mention that Edwards found about his departure via updates on social media, with Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto expected to be announced as Edwards’ successor imminently.

Despite the change of travel in the dugout, Wolves are still ramping up their transfer activity, and like they did with Jimenez, are keen to add another familiar face back to the club in the form of Adama Traoré.

The Spanish winger is available on a free transfer following his exit from West Ham, with a report by Football Insider claiming that Wolves are working on a deal to bring the 30-year-old back to the Black Country.

Traore had a highly successful spell with Wolves between 2018 and 2023, where he helped contribute to back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the top-flight and getting the club back playing European football.

But since then, Traore’s career has regressed, with his latest stint at West Ham showing he has a long way to go if he is to rediscover such high levels.

With this in mind, FLW’s Wolves fan pundit has commented on whether he would welcome Traore back to Molineux this summer.

Speaking to Football League World, FLW’s Wolves fan pundit Thomas Woodhall has revealed he has mixed feelings over a return to Wolves for Adama Traore, but admits the way the winger forced a move away from the club during his last spell means the club should be careful in entertaining his services for a second stint.

Thomas told FLW: “Adama Traoré, with his ability and what he’s capable of, yes, I’d welcome him back in a heartbeat, but he spent the last two years of his Wolves contract trying to find a way out.

“He wanted to be loaned out to Barcelona when they had no money and they were banned from transfers or whatever it was, I can’t remember properly, but essentially, they weren’t spending money, and he jumped ship as soon as they came in.

“He refused contract extensions and didn’t want to be here, so I don’t understand how a few years later, he all of a sudden wants to be here.

“The double act of him and Jimenez in the Championship, as long as Adama is firing on all cylinders, which again I doubt, but if he was, then of course, that would be a welcome addition to any team in the Championship.

“But in terms of with him as a person and the way he was last time, I can’t see many Wolves fans being interested in him coming back and obviously bringing that attitude into the changing room.

“Him and Trippier on the same right side sounds tasty. As a player, yes, as a person no, and that’s where I’ll leave it.”

Wolves return could help unlock Adama Traore

It was a very tough season for Adama Traore last term, who failed to notch a single goal contribution in the Premier League while playing for both Fulham and West Ham, not to mention his minutes were quite scattered.

It’s a sign of a player who needs to step down a level to regain his confidence and show what he can do, and the Championship could be the perfect place for the wideman to do that, as he would be able to use his electric pace to tear opposition defenders to shreds.

There’s no doubt he would make Wolves’ forward line so much stronger with his presence, but it’s whether the club want to take on a player who departed the club on such a sour note last time.

It’s an arrival that could cause further friction among the supporters to the ownership, and Traore would have a task on his hands to hit the ground running and prove he was worth the effort to bring back.

It’s a signing that will only go one of two ways, but if it does pay off, then it could be a masterstroke in helping the club return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
