Former Newcastle United striker and Premier League legend Alan Shearer lashed out at FC Barcelona and their high defensive line following the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea last night.

The Blaugrana were never really allowed to get a foot in at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues dominating from start to finish.

A Jules Kounde own goal in the 27th minute gave Chelsea the lead, before second-half strikes from Estevao and Liam Delap secured the victory.

Chelsea were able to get behind the Barcelona backline and create openings with great ease, something that Shearer was surprised by.

“They keep on getting done time and time again. Nothing more than Chelsea deserve. They time it to perfection again,” Shearer said on Amazon Prime (h/t Daily Mail).

“I’ve seen some offside traps in my time, but this is absolutely crazy, it really is,” he added.

Continuing, the former striker further noted: “It’s as if there’s four dummies just stood there and saying ‘how do you want to do it guys?’

“It’s hard to believe at times, I’m lost for words at how easy it’s been for Chelsea to get through and how crazy at times they’re playing it.”

The goals conceded by Barcelona this season have led to a strong external debate regarding the team’s style and the high defensive line approach they use.

However, as far as manager Hansi Flick is concerned, there is no debate, as he has made it clear on several occasions that he does not intend to change his approach.

After all, it was this attacking and defensive structure that helped make Barcelona one of the best teams in Europe last season.
