Pricey Milan Midfielder Still Struggling to Get Minutes

Ardon Jashari received a vote of confidence from new Milan gaffer Ruben Amorim during the summer and didn’t entertain leaving following his disappointing maiden Milan season, which was marred by an early injury. However, that hasn’t translated into regular minutes just yet, Corriere dello Sport reports.

The Swiss international has been the least utilized midfielder so far. In addition to the two centerpieces, Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modric, he’s fallen behind Yunus Musah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek too in the pecking order.

Milan spent €36M to acquire Jashari after he showed real promise at Club Brugge. However, he broke his leg a few weeks after joining. He never really got into a rhythm last year and didn’t win over Massimiliano Allegri. He made 17 total appearances, totaling just under 900 minutes, and provided just one assist in terms of goal contributions.

The 24-year-old had an okay preseason and admitted to being more comfortable in a two-man midfield. However, with Modric staying and Musah bringing a lot to the table with his athleticism, he has remained an afterthought. He has played more with his national team than with the Rossoneri thus far.

Atalanta poked around last summer, but he and the team decided to stick together. Samuele Ricci eventually became the odd man out at the position, transferring to Como on loan with an €20M option to buy.

Our Take on Milan and Jashari

He hasn’t gotten many chances, but he’s never impressed so far. He should indeed fit their current formation better, as he’s well-rounded. However, he’s held back by the fact that he doesn’t excel in either phase and isn’t very physical either. He’ll have to seize his opportunities when Modric rests.
