Paris Saint-Germain have been ordered to pay their former player, Kylian Mbappé (26), a sum of €61m worth of unpaid wages and bonuses, as reported by AFP. The four judges of Paris’ Labour Court have all ruled in favour of the Real Madrid centre-forward in the bitter dispute against his former club over unpaid wages and bonuses.
Last month, Mbappé’s lawyers and PSG’s counsel met in a tense hearing, and both parties claimed colossal fees in damages from each other. When it became increasingly clear that Mbappé would not renew with PSG and leave on a free in 2024, PSG failed to pay the last three months’ worth of Mbappé’s salary.
“This ruling confirms that commitments made must be honoured. It reaffirms a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, labour law applies to everyone, Kylian Mbappé’s lawyers said in a statement.
Given that PSG were countersuing Mbappé for €440m, it is expected that the Champions League winners will appeal the ruling, although L’Equipe understands that PSG remains undecided on the matter.
PSG have reacted to the ruling in a statement seen by Get French Football News:
“Paris Saint-Germain takes note of the judgment pronounced by the Paris Labour Court, which it will execute, while reserving the right to appeal.
Paris Saint-Germain has always acted in good faith and with integrity, and will continue to do so.
The Club is now looking to the future, based on unity and collective success, and wishes the player the best for the rest of his career.”
