PSG’s opening Ligue 1 game to be played in Rennes

Article image:PSG’s opening Ligue 1 game to be played in Rennes

PSG were initially set to host Franck Haise’s Rennes on Sunday to get their Ligue 1 title defense underway, but the fixture is now expected to get inverted with Les Bretons hosting Luis Enrique’s back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners. ICI Armorique broke the news that high-level talks took place today between the two clubs and Ligue 1’s governing body due to the state of the Parc des Princes pitch, which has been deemed unplayable due to a fungal infection.

Sources contacted by Get French Football News confirmed that Ligue 1’s competitions committee has taken up the matter with an official statement expected shortly. The likeliest outcome is for the game to be played at Rennes’ Roazhon Park rather than postponing the game entirely, given that PSG v Rennes was given the Sunday primetime slot on Ligue 1+.
