Official – PSG and Rennes swap home fixture for matchday 1!

It’s the surprise of the evening, and it has already been confirmed: the Ligue 1 2026-2027 opening match between Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes scheduled for this weekend is changing venue. The pitch at the Parc des Princes is unplayable, and the Ligue de Football Professionnel officially announced this Wednesday evening that the match will ultimately be held at Roazhon Park. The return fixture will be at the Parc.

“Informed on August 17 by Paris Saint-Germain of the condition of the Parc des Princes pitch, the LFP arranged as early as the morning of August 19 for an inspection by a specialized consultancy and a delegate to carry out a thorough examination of the playing surface. At the end of this examination, it was found that the current state of the pitch would not allow player safety to be ensured. Meeting on August 19, the Competitions Commission therefore decided that the match cannot be held at the Parc des Princes. The Commission, having then noted the impossibility for Paris Saint-Germain to organize this match at an alternative stadium, received guarantees from Stade Rennais that it could host the organization of the match counting for Matchday 1 this Sunday, August 23, at 8:45 p.m. The Competitions Commission therefore decided to reverse the fixture, which will now be held at Roazhon Park this Sunday, August 23, at 8:45 p.m.”

It’s a double surprise. Reversing a match is already rare, and for this reason it is even more surprising given the usually high quality of the pitch at the Parc des Princes. PSG is used to being among the best in the league when it comes to pitches, but the season is getting off to a bad start in that regard. Perhaps an explanation will be given.
