Pulgar reaches verbal agreement on Flamengo deal to 2028 | OneFootball

Flamengo have reached a verbal agreement to extend midfielder Pulgar’s contract to the end of 2028, with a pay rise and an increased release clause. The move reduces the risk of losing a key player in this window, with the 32-year-old expected to sign early next week.

According to Globo.com, the accord was struck after qualification past Cruzeiro in the Libertadores last 16, with president Bap’s approval and paperwork still pending.

His release clause had dropped to US$4 million, around R$20.8 million, for this window, which made a departure feasible. Pulgar received higher-salary offers from the Middle East but prioritised staying if his terms were improved.

His representative in Brazil, Fabio Pinto of Rickman Sports, said the renewal stems from a respectful relationship and that Pulgar feels fully connected to the club, the fans and the squad, with a desire to keep making history. He added there were normal negotiations and adjustments, alongside gratitude to the board and a shared intent to agree.

Pulgar’s last pay rise came in March last year and remained below some midfielders who are not starters. Seeing this as likely his final major deal, he sought better conditions. Since 2022 he has played 171 games, scored six goals and produced nine assists, winning nine trophies including the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Carioca, the 2022 and 2025 Libertadores, the 2022 and 2024 Copa do Brasil, the 2025 Supercopa do Brasil and the 2025 Brasileiro.
